Women in Property, South Wales Branch 2015
An Events Round-Up (January - December)
The committee worked tirelessly to organise a great range of events which included local construction site visits, CPD seminars, mentoring/inspirational speaker events and social networking gatherings.
The year kick-started with our quarterly free networking WiP Wednesday Event, which has enjoyed a record turnout this year. This event has become so popular that sponsors have been secured for all of 2016 and early 2017. Our AGM held at Tiger Tiger at the end of February was very well attended with ladies keen to join committee.
The highlight of our calendar as a branch is our Student Award which was held at the prestigious Cardiff Museum building with a VIP guest speaker - Louise Brooke Smith President of RICS. Louise provided a very honest and inspiring insight into her career. The afternoon was concluded with a rather nice afternoon tea, which appeared to be enjoyed by all
Site visits were arranged throughout the year and included a visit to Pontypridd Lido in February, a site tour of the Friars Walk development in Newport and a re-visit to the Ice Arena Wales, Cardiff.
The CPD seminars covered a variety of topics such as looking forward in the Construction Industry, Design Commission Wales Review, Mobile Generations and Well Being workshop, a Planning and CIL update and the annual South Wales Property Review hosted by JLL.
Our mentoring and motivational speaker events were very well received and started with a formal training programme workshop held in Bristol, a Masterclass in using social media in Cardiff and a very inspiration talk by Ann-Marie Smale, MBE of Powell Dobson Architects about her journey from being a graduate to MD of a thriving architectural practice with offices in Cardiff and London.
Our social networking events are always very popular and as well as the usual tables booked for the FBE Black Tie dinners, Concrete Society Lunches, RICS Awards, the branch AGM and so on, we surpassed ourselves with trips to Ascot for Ladies Day, Polo in the City at Pontcanna Fields, tables for Beaujolais Day at Le Monde to quote a few - all of which were rounded off with our Christmas Indulgence event of Cheese, Chocolate and Wine tasting at the Park House Club, Cardiff.

We look forward to an even bigger and better 2016 – which starts with WiP Wednesday on 13 January, Glassworks, Cardiff at 6:00pm. Look forward to seeing you there.
