22 Apr 2016
Open to all, Design Circle challenges you to imagine a future view across of either Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend or Merthyr Tydfil, pictured in the year 2108. Easy? There’s a catch! You have to represent your vision with a single, continuous hand-drawn line on paper…
22nd April 2016 - Competition Launch
23rd May 2016 - Registration Deadline
5pm, 31st May - Submission Deadline
We’re asking those intending to enter to let us know; please register your intent by emailing:
Tweet using #DesignCircleSkyline or link up through Facebook - Design Circle RSAW South
Landscape A3 originals of your submission should be delivered to the RSAW office by 5pm:
Royal Society of Architects in Wales
The Creative Quarter
The winner will receive a £360 Mont Blanc “StarWalker Extreme” Fineliner pen generously donated by long-standing supporter Ibstock and engraved to commemorate your victory!
Our intent is to exhibit the winner and selected entrants from the competition as part of the Wales Festival of Architecture, and potentially elsewhere. Note, however, details are still being finalised and this cannot be guaranteed.
Your future skyline of either Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend or Merthyr Tydfil in the year 2108 must be submitted as a single, continuous hand-drawn line on landscape A3 white or tracing paper. Your line should terminate on the right and left sides of the page 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. You can trace, sketch, plan, computer model, pencil out or otherwise pre-plan your submission, but your actual submission must be hand-drawn with ink on paper. Any pre-planning lines or marks should be completely removed before submission. Your ink line must be drawn without removing the pen’s nib from start to finish: you must not fold the paper or otherwise interrupt the single continuous line. Lines can cross at any angle but should not over-write each other by tracking one line ‘on top’ of another for any perceivable distance.
Your A3 ‘Skyline’ should be marked in pencil on the reverse with your choice of title for the image, your name and email address. Your submitted original A3 ‘skyline’ should be accompanied by a “JPEG” format picture of the matching contemporary view. Photographs can be submitted on memory stick or emailed to the registration email address. Photographs should be your copyright or otherwise suitable for public display. The photograph is for reference and to form part of the exhibition, but does not form part of the judging. Whilst we will endeavour to, we cannot guarantee that the submitted original A3 ‘skyline’ or any digital memory device will be returned, so we advise keeping a copy. In entering the competition, you agree to grant Design Circle RSAW South, the RSAW and the
RIBA a royalty free licence in perpetuity to use your ‘skyline’ and associated photograph for any purpose provided you are suitably credited. The judges’ decision is final. The right to not
award any winner if no suitable submission can be agreed is reserved. Judges will be appointed by Design Circle RSAW South. Members of the Design Circle Executive (Chair, Treasurer, Vice Chair & Secretary) are allowed to enter but not eligible to win. All other parties, other than judges, are eligible to enter and win.
